One of the most successful long-term projects was the development of program of introduction of peritoneal dialysis in St.-Petersburg (Directors - Professor N.A. Belyakov and K.Ya. Gurevich). Within the framework of the program of cooperation with the "Gambro" company (Sweden) the teachers of MAPS have passed the probation in Sweden. The experts of this firm participated in direct introduction of peritoneal dialysis in clinical center of MAPS in St.-Petersburg. With the help of this company the issue of the journal "Efferent Therapy" was published. It is necessary to note, that the Academy had substantial premises for development of this direction of treatment. In MAPS the course of efferent therapy was created, on which the qualified experts worked, the branch of haemodialysis in clinic extracorporal haemocorrection was introduced. Such program hereinafter has left the frameworks of cooperation with the "Gambro". The result of its development was the opening in 1999 the Municipal Center of Extracorporal Haemocorrection, on the basis of which the new Department of Nephrology and Extracorporal Haemocorrection (the Head of the Center and the Department is Professor K.Ya. Gurevich) was introduced. The creation of such association substantially improved both the results of treatment of patients with chronic renal failure and the quality of training of physicians for St.-Petersburg and other regions of Russia.
