Within the framework of the new program of grant of The Know-How Funds the
cooperation with the Royal College of Physicians of General Practice and London
University (Great Britain) was proceeded. The first steps in this direction
were made in 1992, when in the beginning of cooperation the British colleagues
helped the teachers of the Academy in organization of teaching of general practice,
ensured Departments with scientific literature, conducted seminars on the base
of the Academy and ensured training for Russian teachers in Great Britain. The
new program has allowed to organize training of Russian teachers, as well as
promoted exchange of young doctors of general practice, and also supported the
issuing of the journal "Family Doctor". The idea of creation belonged
both to the Russian side (Professor N.A. Belyakov, Professor O.Y. Kuznetsova)
and British (Doctor P. Tune, Professor L. Soutgeit) side. The first
issue of the journal was published in 1997. Representatives of the University
of Iowa have also participated in establishment of this issue together with
the British colleagues. The Directors of the program from the Russian side were
N.A. Belyakov, Professor O.Y. Kuznetsova, from the British side -
Doctor P. Tune, Professor L. Soutgeit. The other, not less prominent
aspect of this cooperation, was the adaptation of British medical recommendations
for Russian doctors of general practice and use of the journal "Russian
Family Doctor" for carrying out the remote tutoring. The last aspect is
extremely actual for realization of continuous postgraduate education. Such
kinds of training as remote training became very popular abroad in the recent
years. The obtained experience in methodology of training has become useful
not only for the teachers of the Department of Family Medicine, but also for
other Departments of the Academy. It is necessary to note, that the dialogue
with the British colleagues has allowed to expand views on modern approaches
in the field of methodology of drawing up the tests. New principles of their
training were used to make new generation of tests. This work was carried out
by the members of SPbMAPS and Russian MAPS under the direction of the Ministry
of Health of the Russian Federation in 1998.
The Know -How Fund in 1999 has granted one more grant on development of the
program, the realization of which was carried out in the field of emergency
medico-social help. The main purpose of this program is the development of the
effective measures of fighting with tobacco smoking. The team from the Department
of Nursery participates in performance of this program from the side of the
Academy, led by Professor K.A. Pokhis, and, from the British side, members
of the Notingham University.
