At MAPS the large research work, including fundamental and application problems of modern medicine, is conducted. The Academy has its own research center, which consists of the Research Institute of Medical Mycology named after P.N. Kashkin, 8 Scientific Laboratories, Departments and Center of Sorption Technologies. The Academy organizes unique scientific partnership with St.-Petersburg Research Institute of Emergency Medicine named after I.I. Dzanalidze (Director - professor S.F. Bagnenko), Russian State Research Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (Director - the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor E.A. Selivanov, the Head of the Department of the same name), Russian Neuro-Surgical Research Institute named after A.L. Polenov (Director - Professor V.P. Berstnev, the Head of the Neuro-Surgical Department), Children's Orthopedic Institute - Y.I. Pozdnikin, the Head of the Department of Children's Traumatology and Orthopedic), Research Institute of Oncology named after N.N. Petrov (Director - the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor K.P. Hanson), St.-Petersburg Research Institute of Phthysiopulmanology (Director - Professor Y.N. Levashov, the Head of the Department of Phthysiatry), St.-Petersburg Otolaryngology Research Institute (Director - the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor I.I. Lantsov, the Head of the Department of High Technologies in Otorinolaringology), St.-Petersburg Branch of the State Center "Eye Microsurgery" (Director - Professor L.I. Balashevitch, the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology with the Course of Children's Ophthalmology) under the aegis of the Northwest Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (President - member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences B.I. Tkachenko).

About 140 high qualified experts, having wide experience of practical operation are working in the structure of the Research Center.

The Academy is widely known for its well-developed scientific schools, which have close contacts with many leading scientific research centers in our country and abroad.

The well-known scientists are working at MAPS - among them 9 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, more then 30 corresponding members and full members of other Academies and 19 honored scientists of the Russian Federation. 190 Doctors of Science and professors, 400 Candidates of Medical Science (Ph.D.) actively participate in scientific research work.

The Academy staff annually publishes 25-30 monographs, hundreds of articles, receives dozens of patents. Such magazines as "Efferent Therapy", "Problems of Medical Mycology", "AIDS, Sex and Health", "Emergency Medicine" are issued in the Academy.
