The College of Dentistry was founded in 1997 and includes the Departments of Therapeutic Dentistry N1 and N2, Children's Dentistry, Orthopedic Dentistry, Gnathic-Facial Surgery with the Course of Orthodontia and Prosthetic Repair, Otorinolaringology, Ophthalmology with the Course of Children's Ophthalmology, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, High Technologies in Otorinolaringology and Logopathology, Medical Cosmetology.

The years which have preceded the forming of the College have contributed a lot to the development of Dentistry in Russia.

The necessity in high quality dental services has led to creation of a vast net of elite dental polyclinics and private cabinets. Dentists have the possibility to choose the place of work with sharply distinguished technological maintenance and payment of their work. That has led to severe modifications in evaluation of experts and, as a result, to inception of market of highly skilled physicians.

The unsatisfied necessity in training of the experts in new technologies has appeared, which led to alternate state network of different centers for training the experts with well equipped polyclinic departments, but teachers were poorly prepared for this purpose. Only permanent needs of the population in dental services remained unchangeable.

One of the peculiarities of the Department's work in the forming market relations was that medical bodies have become unprofitable to provide Departments with the place and equipment. That was caused by reduction of financing the polyclinics and allowance to earn money independently. A reality was a perspective of changing the types of ownership of dental polyclinics. Apparently, that was not interesting at all for the dental Departments, which could lost the clinical basements.

In these terms there was a necessity for structural reorganization of work of Departments' profile, that has caused the foundation of the College of Dentistry.

The Dean of the College from the moment of its foundation is the Head of the Department of Gnathic - Facial Surgery with the Course of Orthodontia and Prosthetic Repair corresponding member of Russian Academy of Science ,honored scientist of the Russian Federation Professor V.A. Kozlov.

The purpose of the College's work was making a model of educational and practical structure adjusted to socioeconomic conditions, and be capable to fulfil the following tasks: performance of state contract on improvement and certification of dentists working in medical establishments of all types of ownership; training of dentists of wide profile; creation of own material and clinical basement; creation of special fund for maintenance the fundamental and applied researches in speciality and for publishing.

Now the College possesses the competent teachers who are capable to compete in the market of educational services. Under condition of proper investments in new technologies, under conservation of available basements and realization of predicated by the Scientific Council of SPbMAPS the concept of development of dental direction, the College will have the outlook for its development.

DEPARTMENT of HIGH TECHNOLOGIES in OTORINOLARINGOLOGY and LOGOPATHOLOGY

The Department was formed in1998. It works in close co-operation with the St.-Petersburg -Research Institute of Otorinolaringology and Logopathology. The scientific interests of the Department are concluded in working out the new high medical technologies of methods of cochlear implantation; study the local immunity of mucosas of upper respiratory paths; study the possibilities of using laser technologies in otorinolaringology.

The Department conducts new, original courses of general and thematic improvement, such as "Reconstruction Surgery of Ear and Cochlear Implantation", "Rhinology. Endoscopic Microsurgery of Nose" and others.

The training and examination on the Certificate of Expert in specialities "Otolaringology", "Surdology - Otorinolaringology", "Logopedia" are conducted at the Department.

120 otorinolaringologists, 30 logopedists in problems of logopathology, 110 family doctors in sections of otorinolaringology have been trained for Public Health services.

The Department was formed in 1988. It provides training in the courses of general and thematic improvement for doctors of children's departments of dental polyclinics, dentists of mixed reception and somatic departments of hospitals ("Dentistry of Children's Age. The scientific concerns of the Department are: elaboration of measures of prophylaxis of dental diseases; treatment of caries and its complications; anomalies of occlusion in children; working out of the methods of pharmacological correction of children's behavior with dentist; inherent and gained face anomalies.

During 5 years 657 physicians and one candidate of Medical Science (Ph.D.) were trained. 48 articles have been published.

The Department was formed in 1917, however training in the speciality has begun in 1885. The courses of general and thematic improvement for otorinolaringologists and surdologists are conducted at the Department.

The main scientific directions of the Department are: diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment of acute and sudden sensoneural bradyacuasia and deafness; development and improvement of audits-preserved and audits-improved of operations of purulent and unpurulent ear diseases; surgical decompression of facial nerve of pareses and paralyses of different etiology; purulent and unpurulent pathology of nose and near-nose sinuses; functional and organic diseases of pharynx and larynx.

The Department was formed in 1890. In 1997 it merged with the Department of Children's Ophthalmology, which was open in 1984. It provides training in the courses of general and thematic improvement for ophthalmologists, children's ophthalmologists and courses in ophthalmology for physicians of general practice. As for the original courses, "Organ of Vision Anomalies" and "Glaucoma" can be mentioned.

The main scientific directions are: study of anomalies of organ of vision, glaucoma, surgery of lens.

During 5 years 824 doctors for practical ophthalmology, 212 physicians of general practice, 3 candidates (Ph.D.) and 2 Doctors of Medical Science were trained. 1 monograph, 9 manuals and 188 articles were published.

The main scientific directions are: cultivation of skin cells, mechanism of skin aging, complex treatment and prophylaxis of aging, laserotherapy in cosmetology, immunodeficit states in cosmetology, liposculpture, shapes of formation of pathological seams, their complex treatment and prophylaxis, interactive programs in aesthetic surgery.

By now 330 doctors and 40 nurses were trained and 11 printed works (article, collections of scientific works) were issued.
