The College of Pediatrics

The College was established in 1984 and comprised of 6 Departments and 2 Associate Professor's courses. The Department of Pediatrics N 1 (the Head of the Department, honored scientist of the Russian Federation Doctor of Medical Science Professor N.V.Orlova), the Department of Pediatrics N 2 (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Science Professor N.I.Alexandrova), Children's Surgery (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Science Professor G.A.Boikov), Obstetrics and Gynaecology N 1 (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Science Professor S.N.Davydov), Children's Ophthalmology (the Head of the Department, Associate Professor V.V.Kolotov), Children Traumatology and Orthopedics (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Science Professor V.A.Andrianov), Courses of Children's Neuropathology (the Head of the Department, Associate Professor E.K.Makarova) and Children's Dentistry (the Head of the Course, Associate Professor N.F.Androsik) were included in its structure.

The organization of the College was caused by the necessity of joining of the Departments and courses of pedagogical profile, which were at different colleges, with the purpose of forming the united strategy and tactics of Pediatrics development in the Academy.

The first Dean of the College (1984-1989 ) was Doctor of Medical Science, Professor G.A. Boikov, the Head of the Department of Children's Surgery. Since March, 1989 the Dean of the College was Candidate of Medical Sciences (Ph.D.), Associate Professor V.S. Ievlev, Associate Professor of the Department of Children's Surgery. Now, the Dean of the College is the Head of the Department of Pediatrics N 3, professor F.P. Romanyuk.

The main tasks and ideology of College's work are the association of Departments, working for protection of health of growing up generation from birth up to adolescent age, with the purpose of using the experience, knowledge, different profiles of the Departments for more successful improvement and specialization of physicians. The study of experience of methodical work of different Departments enriches the Departments' profiles. Many Departments of the College work together on the same research projects, such as “Age Peculiarities of Children's Organism in Normal State and Pathology”, which includes research in the fields of children's cardiology, pulmanology, gastroenterology, neuropathology and neurosurgery, traumatology and orthopedics, etc., and allows Departments to consolidate their research.

In the recent years the structure of the College has been modified. In 1988 the Course of Children's Dentistry was reorganized in the Department (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Science Professor G.A. Kotov), and in 1991 Associate Professor's Course of Children's Neuropathology - to the Department of Children's Neuropathology and Neurosurgery (the Head of the Department is Doctor of Medical Science, Professor Y.A. Garmashov).

In 1997 when the College of Dentistry was organized, the Departments of Children's Dentistry and Children's Ophthalmology were included in its structure.

Now the College of Pediatrics consists of the following Departments:

  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology N 2 (the Head of the Department, Professor V.N. Kustarov);

  • Children's Neuropathology and Neurosurgery (the Head of the Department, Professor Y.A. Garmashov);

  • Children's Traumatology and Orthopedics (the Head of the Department, Professor Y.I. Baindurashvili);

  • Children's Surgery (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medicine V.G. Bairov);

  • Pediatrics N 1 (the Head of the Department, Professor O.A. Mutafyan);

  • Pediatrics N 2 with the Course of Gastroenterology (the Head of the Department, Professor V.A. Alexandrova);

  • Pediatrics N 3 with the Course of Neonatology (the Head of the Department, Professor F.P. Romanyuk);

  • Teenage Medicine and Valeology (the Head of the Department, Doctor of Medicine, Professor A.M. Koulikov).

The Department was formed in 1977. It provides training in the courses of thematic improvement for obstetricians-gynaecologists, therapeutists of maternity and obstetric hospitals, physicians of general practice in selected issues of obstetrics and gynaecology, endoscopy in gynaecology, ultrasonic diagnosis in obstetrics and gynaecology. The training of clinical studies and postgraduate courses is conducted.

The main research directions are: hemostasis disorder in case of obstetric and gynaecological pathology; infection in obstetrics and gynaecology; gynaecological endocrinology: auxiliary reproduction technologies, hormonal contraception, pre - and post menopause.

During 5 years 1250 physicians, 6 candidates (Ph.D.), 7 Doctors of Medical Science were trained. 5 monographs and 70 articles were published.

DEPARTMENT of CHILDREN'S NEUROPATHOLOGY and NEUROSURGERY

The Department was formed in 1991. It provides training in the courses of professional training, general and thematic improvement for neurologists, neurosurgeons, pediatrists, neonatologists, traumatologists, doctors of radial diagnosis, teachers, logopedists, tutors of kindergartens and specialized children houses. 10 international seminars have been conducted in children's homes, kindergartens and schools of the city.

The main research directions of the Department are: early diagnosis of structural and function CNS's diseases of the children, individual optimal algorithms of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, minimum invasive neurosurgery, neonatal neurosurgery, neurosonography, neurotraumatology, social adaptation and medical - pedagogical problems of children with CNS affection, issues of practical Public Health of the city and the region.

During 5 years 655 physicians, 3 candidates (Ph.D.) and 1 Doctor of Medical Science were trained. 2 monographs and 38 articles were published.

The Department was formed in 1986. It provides training in the courses of general and thematic improvement for children's surgeons orthopedists - traumatologists, physicians of children and adults' Medical Physical Culture hospitals, polyclinics, trauma departments.

The scientific direction is to study and development of up-to-date methods of treatment of inherent and gained pathology of locomotorium apparatus of children and adolescents. The priority direction is the early diagnosis and early rehabilitation of children with pathology of locomotorium apparatus.

During 5 years 657 doctors, 4 candidates (Ph.D.), 4 Doctors of Medical Science were trained. 116 articles and chapters in 3 monographs were published.

The Department was formed in 1922. It provides training in the courses of general and thematic improvement for pediatrists, surgeons of general profile, children's surgeons and urologists, surgeons - neonatologists, pediatrists - neonatologists.

The main research directions are: study of emergency, purulent and scheduled transabdominal and thoracal surgery; urinology of children's age; working out methods of surgical correction of inherent defects of congenital maldevelopment of children.

During 5 years 830 physicians, 4 candidates (Ph.D.), 1 Doctor of Medical Science were trained.

The Department was formed in 1904. The main clinical base of the Department is the oldest multiprofile children's hospital named after K.A. Rauhfus.

The Department provides training in the certificate courses, as well as courses of general and thematic improvement in children's cardioreumatology, pulmanology, preventive pediatrics, function and ultrasonic diagnosis for pediatrists, cardioreumatologists and pulmanologists, area pediatrists, pediatrists. Courses of improvement, conducted in distant areas, became a tradition.

The educational process at the Department is well processed and intensified as high as possible. The trainees have a possibility to supervise patients in educational theme, to acquire the modern methods of diagnosis and treatment. At all courses of improvement the programmed test control of knowledge is carried out. Conducting the practical classes in congenital of heart diseases the case studies are used as well as the method of alghorithmization is applied.

The Department permanently gives the major attention to training of scientific, pedagogical and pediatric staff.

The main research direction is the study of adaptive possibilities of cardiovascular and respiratory systems of different children's diseases. 16 candidate (Ph.D.) and 1 Doctoral theses were defended on these subjects.

During 5 years 2325 physicians were trained. 17 articles and 2 monographs were published.

The Department was formed in 1954. It provides training in the certificate, as well as general and thematic improvement courses: “Pediatrics" (for pediatrists of children's hospitals, polyclinics, sanatoriums and kindergardens), "Gastroenterology" (for pediatrist - gastroenterologists), “Gastroenterology with Clinical Dietology”.

The main research directions are: prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of children with diseases of gastrointestinal tract, diagnosis, treatment and prediction of outcomes of diseases of esophagus and gastroduadenal system of children, functional condition of digestive system and homeostasis of children with chronic gastroenterological diseases and chronic disorders of nutrition under the influence of different methods of treatment and rehabilitation.

During 5 years 1546 physicians, 3 candidates of Medical Sciences (Ph.D.) were trained. 24 articles were published.

DEPARTMENT of PEDIATRICS N 3 with the COURSE of NEONATOLOGY

The Department was formed in 1977. It provides training in the courses of general and thematic improvement for pediatrists of general profile, pulmanologists, neonatologists and physicians of general practice (“Physiology and Pathology of Children of Early Age”, “Nursing of Newborns in Polyclinic”, “Problems of Children Pulmanology and Allergology”, 3-years' course of training for the young specialists - pediatrists).

The main scientific direction of the Department is study of mechanism of prolonged and chronic respiratory diseases of children.

During 5 years 2280 physicians, 5 candidates (Ph.D.), 1 Doctor of Medical Science were trained. 1 monograph and 26 articles were published.

DEPARTMENT of TEENAGERS' MEDICINE and VALEOLOGY

The Department was given this name in 1995, when the Department of Physiology and Pathology of teenagers and the Department of Valeology were merged.

It was formed by name of the Department of Physiology and Pathology of teenagers in 1983, first in Russia. The Department of Valeology first time appeared in 1985.

The Department's task is to increase qualifications of physicians of different specialities, first of all, of pediatrists, internists, teenagers doctors and doctors of general practice in the field of problems, arisen in the critical period of development (teenage age). This work is carried out in the courses “Therapy of the Teenagers”, “Cardiology of the Teenagers”, “Endocrinology of the Teenagers”, “Organization of the Medical Supply of the Teenagers”. Other direction is training of school doctors, pediatrists, valeologists of schools, teachers of medical educational institutions in the area of valeology in the courses “Teenagers' Valeology”, “Problems of general Valeology”, “Valeology of Different Age Groups”, “Valeology of Family”, “Pedagogical Valeology”, “New Psychotechnologies in Valeology”.

The main scientific directions are: to study features of development and diseases of internal organs of teenagers; definition of correlations of somatic and sexual development; problems of vegetative dystonia; psychology of health; prevention of addiction; drug addiction and smoking of the adolescents.

During 5 years 2218 physicians, 3 candidates (Ph.D.) 2 Doctors of Medical and 1 Doctor of Psychological Science were trained. 16 monographs and 59 articles and educational manuals have been published.
